If you want to have great pictures on IE you have to add

example for IE 7

[if lte IE 7]
[link href="mypatch.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /]
[endif]

in the mypatch.css you can define a special css for the IE where you use another type of image maybe gif

.sucking_ie_picture{background:url(/img/icons/Newspaper_Feed_128×128.gif);
